 Adonijah declares himself king while old king David is nursed by virgin Abishag, Bathsheba appeals to David with Nathan (prophet) and Zadok (priest), David declares Solomon king.

 Adonijah asks for mercy and for Abishag as wife from Bathsheba, Solomon kills Adonijah for wife request  and also kills general Joab and Shimiel for leaving refuge city.

God hears and grants Solomon's desire for wisdom, Solomon judges wisely the case of two harlots claiming the same live baby.

 Solomon's officials and 12 district governors are chronicled with their  title, Solomon and the people had plenty of everything and people traveled from all over to hear Solomon's wisdom.

 Solomon reached out to Hiram king of Tyre and agreed to trade large quantities of cedar, stone, and skilled laborers for food and other provisions to begin building the Lord's temple.

 The details and dimensions of the temple are described inside and out, with lots of gold covering, palm trees and flowers in a garden motif.

 Solomon's palace took 13 years to complete, the palace and its elaborate furnishings are described including the holy furnishings that go in the temple.

 Solomon brings the ark and other holy furnishings into the temple in a large ceremony to dedicate the temple with prayer and large numbers of sacrifices.

 The Lord appears to Solomon and reaffirms Himself and ties Israel's success to proper temple worship,  details of how the labor was organized and assigned are explained.

 The Queen of Sheba visits to question Solomon with a great caravan and was overwelmed, she brought precious gifts, Solomon's wealth is described.

 Solomons's many foreign wives turned his heart away from the Lord to idols,  

so the Lord raises up foreign enemies Haddad and Rezon and internal rebel Jeroboam.

 Solomons's son Rehoboam listens to childhood friends and increases burden of people against advice of wise elders, Jeroboam rebels and seizes opportuniuty to split nation. 

 God's unnamed prophet splits altar miraculously as a sign before  King Jeroboam's powerless withered hand, then he disobeys God's command and follows an old lying prophet and is killed by lion sent by God and then honored in burial.

 King Jeroboam sends his disguised wife to prophet Ahijah for help Ahijah prophesied pending death of the kings son and destruction of Israel for wickedness.

 The rules of Abijam, Asa, Nadab, Baasha are recounted, most did evil, Baasha wiped out all of Jeroboam's family as prophesisied, Asa did right in the eyes of the Lord.

 The kings of Israel are chronicled and kill each other in different power struggles, they do greater evil in the sight of the Lord as time in the book progresses ending with Ahab.

 Elijah prophesies drought as God's judgment, is fed by ravens, he moves in with Gentile widow, her flour and oil are miraculously extended after he is fed, he raises her son from the dead.

 Fugitive status Elijah challenges king Ahab and 250 prophets of Baal to showdown at Mt. Carmel,  Elijah mocks and slays Baal prophets after calling fire from heaven to consume altar.

 Elijah flees for his life from Jezebel, an angel of God appears to him in his despondency and assigns him role of annointing new king and passing the prophet mantle to Elisha.

King Ben-Hadad musters large army against Israel, is defeated, flees and gets treaty from king Ahab, God's prophet condemns king Ahab for making this deal.

 King Ahab is refused the desired purchase of Naboth's vineyard so Jezebel frames Naboth who is stoned and Ahab takes vineyard, Elijah passes judgment for this.

 King Ahab joins King Jehoshaphat against Aram, all prophets predict victory except Micaiah who speaks for God and sees Ahab's death (blood licked by dogs), Ahab's son succeeds.

  David becomes king yet fails and mirrors the sin of Eve with Bathsheba, God promises David his seed will sit on eternal throne as David's family fight among themselves.

 Injured king Ahaziah consults Baal and Elijah passes God's judgment along and then calls down fire from heaven to kill 2  groups of 50 men sent from king until 3rd group submits.

 Elisha escorts and witnesses Elijah traveling and taken into heaven with a chariot of fire,  Elisha gets cloak and purifies water, bears mauls boys for mocking bald Elisha (God's man). 

 Kings of Israel Judah and Edom unite and muster to war against Moab, they consult Elisha and he provides water miraculously which confuses enemies and they destroy Moab. 

 Elisha multiplies oil to help poor woman, he promises Shunammite woman a son, then as a lad he resurrects him from dead (body to body) after his staff didn't work remotely .

 Naaman an Aramean warrior had leprosy he seeks (through jewish servant girl) and reluctantly follow Elisha's advice and is healed, Elisha's servant Gehazi sneaks to Naaman for money for healing and is struck with leprosy.

 Elisha makes an axehead float, the Aramean's plot to kill Elisha he miraculously rerouts them away, later Samaria is seized resulting in the king eating his own son and a failed plot to kill Elisha.

The instant end of the famine is prophesied, 4 lepers spread word of stocked but abandoned Aramean camp, the trampling death of skeptical gate officer is detailed after disregarding Elisha.

 Jehoram restores Shunamite's land, Aramean servant Hazael visits Elisha who sees his future reign and evil, Ahaziah (Jehoram's successor in Judah) joins Israelite king Joram against Hazael.

 Jehu is annointed to be king he kills Jehorem and Ahaziah and then Jezebel in Jezreel who is eaten by dogs in fullfilment of Elijah's prophesy.

 King Jehu has all of Ahab's sons beheaded, and kills Ahab's prophets, and priests, he tricks any Baal worshipper in land with promise of Baal worship and kills all to honor the Lord.

  Athaliah (slain king Ahaziah's mother) kills all royal offspring except hidden baby Joash, priest Jehoiada protects Joash he is later coronated Athaliah and Baal priests are killed.

 King Joash (Jehoash) has dificulties gathering money to repair the Lord's temple, he pays Aramean king Hazael with sacred treasuries and is killed and succeeded by Amaziah.

 Joash suceeded Jehoahaz as ruler of Israel, Elisha before death uses arrows to prophesize partial Israel victory over Aram, after burial body is resurrected by touching Elisha's bones.

Amaziah king of Judah boldly challenges Jehoahaz king of Israel to battle,  Jehoahaz warns and defeats Amaziah, Jehoahaz is succeeded by Jereboam II.

 The kings of both Judah and Israel are chronicled including numerous assasination plots most did evil in the sight of the Lord.

 Ahaz king of Judah does evil he gives gold and silver from the temple to Assysian king as vassal payment and wrongly alters the temple altar.

Israel's demise is summarized,  they followed the worthless idols of the nations around them becoming worthless, the mixing of local gods with the Lord is explained in occupied Samaria.

 Hezekiah is a righteous king of Judah, but he pays off Sennacherib king of Assyria with temple gold (wrongly), Sennacherib then mocks and taunts God and siezes Jerusalem.

 Hezekiah prays recognizing the graveness of Sennacherib's boasts and God's power to deliver, that night an angel wipes out Sennacherib's army, he is later killed by his sons.

 Hezekiah had an illness to death, he prayed and is healed, a Babylonian envoy surveys the kings wealth and Isaiah prophesizes future Babylonian exile. 

 Manasseh is the next king he leads the people astray and worships idols detested by God who promises judgment through prophets. 

The next king Josiah follows God he finds the book of the Law in temple, repents and gets message that he will be spared the coming judgment.  

Josiah gathers everyone and renews covenant vow he utterly destroys idol temples and follows the Law, he is succeeded by Jehoahaz and Jehoiakim.

 Nebuchadnezzar sieges Jerusalem and captured and exiled  king Jehoiachin and anyone of value, he appoints his uncle  Zedekiah as king

 God establishes a king to rule his people, the people choose Saul , Samuel (God's prophet) anoints David,  there is conflict between them,  David is to be God's conquering representative. 

 The genealogy of David's family is chronicled,  Jerusalem is conquered for God  to prepare for temple to be built by David's son Solomon .
