 In the past God spoke through many prophets the author then quotes several of these to prove in these last days God's word has been finished through His son Jesus. 

 The whole earth is subject to Jesus but He humbled himself suffered and died to taste death (separation from God) for all mankind.

 Jesus is the ultimate high priest He built the house of Moses (Law), therefore remain faithful to Him, don't disobey (fall away) like Israel did under Moses.

 God's rest is available only to those who believe in Jesus  just like the people of God before Christ looking forward to Messiah. 

 Jesus is the mediator (priest) in the order of Melchizedek between God and man, he suffered for the salvation of mankind but  you (readers) are becoming dull.  

 You have left the elementary teachings (Law) and there is now no going back to it , God's oath by His own name to Abraham is fullfilled in Jesus.

 Melchizedek was a priest before Moses existed, then under the Law there was an Aaronic priesthood,  Jesus has now replaced the Aaronic lineage of priesthood as the perfect sacrifice to God.

 Jesus is the mediator of a new better covenant with the Law written on people's heart that those in the old covenant looked forward to properly (Jeremiah).

 The priest in the old covenant entered into God's presence repeatedly covered  by animal blood, Jesus offered His own blood once and for all for all mankind.

 Sacrifices for sins looked forward to Jesus, there is now no going back (Law) therefore hold fast to Jesus until He returns to judge righteously. 

 Saints of the past from Abel to  the prophets endured suffering and hardships looking to the promises God made all fulfilled in Jesus.  

Therefore fix your eyes upon Jesus, endure hardships, God disciplines only His own for their own good, Jesus speaks on Zion better than Moses on Sinai.

 Love one another in holiness pure and undefiled without adultery, praise God with your lips and follow leaders all  in Jesus' name.

  Paul appeals to Philemon (slave owner who came to Christ under Paul) to forgive escaped slave Onesimus  and graciously send him back to help Paul further the cause of the gospel . 

  James writes against a theology or "faith" that claims God blesses the rich and prosperous, James shows that God's wisdom always involves sacrificial mercy to others like God did for us in Christ.
