1 samuel - David - BIBLE SUMMARY WITH ART

 Hannah was barren and prayed for a son in the presence of high priest Eli,  God granted her wish and she dedicated her young son Samuel to the Lord under priest Eli.

Hannah gives thanks to the Lord in prayer, then Eli and an unnamed man of God both rebuke Eli's  two wicked sons Phinehas and  Hophni for treating the offering of God with contempt.

 Young Samuel is repeatedly awakened by a call one night, he thought it was Eli, but it was the Lord calling, this is confirmed by Eli, grown Samuel is recognized by the people as God's prophet.

Israel is defeated in battle  by the Philistines  so they try to use the presence of the ark to ensure victory this results in losing the ark to the Philistines, Eli and his sons are killed as judgment for sins.

The people ask Samuel for a king "like the other nations", this dissapoints Samuel who warns people, God tells Samuel to listen to people and appoint them their king.

  Saul is introduced tall and handsome he searches for his fathers lost donkeys  God tells Samuel this is the people's king,  Saul meets and eats with Samuel.

 Jonathan and Michal (Saul's daughter / David's wife) help save David from his father Saul , Saul send's several messengers to take David in Ramah all then prophesied (improperly) including Saul himself (naked).

  David is pursuited by Saul who orders  Ahimelek and all priests of Tob to be  slaughtered for aiding David  (only Doeg complies Saul's other guards refuse order), a son Abiathar escapes to David's protection.

 David and his men sneak into Saul's sleeping  camp while being pursued, David refuses to kill Saul (God's annointed), He takes spear and jug and shouts from distance to expose Saul's sin.

  David and  his men move into Ziklag with the Philistines to escape Saul, they would raid neighboring enemies but then tell Philistine king Achish they were raiding others in Judah.
