Jeremiah - Heartbroken - BIBLE SUMMARY WITH ART

 The word of the Lord came to young priest Jeremiah to be delivered to all of Judah, God uses almond rod and boiling water to illustrate pending judgment.

 The prophet recounts the history of the young nation Judah delivered from Egypt wandered away to worship idols, God contends and says let these idols save you now.

 Judah has become polluted, wicked, and a harlot to other nations just like her sister Israel, God calls them back to return and repentence.

Repent,  the Lord has searched and found only rebelliousness, because the people are shrewd to do evil a lion from the north has been summoned, the whole land will be a desolation.

 None are righteous, all are rebellious,  the Lord will destroy all except for a remnant so the descendants of Judah will know to fear the Lord.

 Jerusalem is under siege , violence and destuction will resound in her,  put on sackcloths for the Lord must punish her.

Jeremiah is instructed to stand in the temple gate and command that the people amend their ways and worship God, for the people have defiled the temple and will become food for birds in utter ruin.

 The sins and treachery of Judah are detailed, the corpses of the kings will rot without honor, the priests and prophets claim the Law with deceit, God's sorrowful harvest is past due.

 If I were a fountain I could weep continiously for my people, they are all deceivers, God speaks and says He will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, knowing God is all that holds value.

Idols cannot speak they must be carried and should be mocked, mountains tremble before the living God of Israel who created the earth and sky, His people should gather their belongings they will be in exile.

The people of Judah have broken their covenant with God and worshiped idols, they have conspired to kill Jeremiah, therefore God will bring disaster upon them. 

 Jeremiah prays earnestly questioning the prosperity of the wicked, God answers that the wicked neighbors must uproot Israel, until a remnant returns. 

God requires Jeremiah to hide a belt that becomes an ilustration of  worthless Judah,  then a poem ensures that the people will be judged in captivity.

The word of the Lord assures that the famine is God's judgment, as promised He will judge them with sword, famine, and plague in spite of their offerings because of sin.

 Even if Moses were to intercede God is going to judge with the sword, death and famine, there will be many widows, woe to expecting mothers, Jeremiah promises to speak for God.

Now is not the time to take a wife or have children , the carcasses are not to be mourned, a day will come where God will restore them to their land so they will know it was God who did this.

Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, man's heart is deceitful and wicked and God searches this, keep the sabbath holy.

 God instructs Jeremiah to observe a potter changing clay design as an illustration for God's dealing with Israel,  therefore God will overthrow His people before all the nations. 

Jeremiah is told by God to buy a jar and break it, Thus saith the Lord I am about to bring on this city and all its towns the entire calamity.

 High Priest Pashur had Jeremiah beaten and chained for his prophesies , Jeremiah prophesied against his tormenters and then laments being a mockery and ever being born.

  King Zedekiah asks Jeremiah for a prophesy with Jerusalem under siege, this is God delivering Jerusalem to the Babylonians, all who fight will perish those who go away to Babylon as booty will live.

God speaks against the kings of Judah who have become rich and neglect justice to the widow and orphan, they will be humiliated and die without honor.

The coming Messiah is the branch of David called "the Lord our righteousness" He will rule justly,  false prophets speak using God's name but God is against them they are doomed.

 God illustrates with two fig baskets the good sweet ones protected taken into Babylonian captivity and the rotten figs representing those left in Jerusalem reproached and cursed.

 Jeremiah explains that God must judge idolatry and evil, there will be a 70 year exile in Babylon, then the Lord will speak from on high and destroy Babylon and ultimately  all of earth's rebellious inhabitants.

When Jeremiah  spoke against Jehoiakim warning eminent judgment he was siezed and many plotted to kill him,  Uriah and others thwarted this plot but then was killed by king.

 Jeremiah has king Zedekiah make a yoke as an illustration of his pending dominion under king Nebuchadnezzar, all prophets assuring safety are false prophets and lying in God's name.

 False prophet Hananiah removes the yoke from Zedekiah's neck and says in two years the vessels of the temple will return from Babylon, Jeremiah prophesizes his death for these lies.

 Jeremiah sends a letter to the elders in Babylonian exile telling them to settle in, plant gardens, and become good citizens for 70 years until return to the land, God is purging wickedness in the land.

 God promises deliverance to the exiles in captivity,  God sees all things and is with them, He punishes in love and will ultimately destroy His enemies and restore Israel and the temple.

God reminds Israel of His everlasting love for them, Israel's mourning will turn to joy,  He promises restoration and a new covenant that will put the Law in all believer's hearts (Jesus' imuputed righteousness).

 Jeremiah buys a field and buries the deed as a picture of hope for future reconciliation , he is imprisoned because of his prophesy of impending Babylonian conquest.

 While in prison Jeremiah prophesizes pending desolation by Babylonians without people or animals then future peaceful reconciliation including promise of eternal Davidic throne.

 Jeremiah prophesied that King Zedekiah will meet Nebuchadnezzer face to face in captivity, God pronounces judgment for not releasing slaves their fate will be like the halved covenant animal carcasess.

 Jeremiah offers wine to the Rebakites who refuse and then upholds them as good examples of people who do what they promise, (live as nomads upheld vow to not drink wine), he then rebukes the people of Judah for breaking promises to God.

 Baruch writes a scroll that Jeremiah dictated but Jehoiakim burns it after he heard it and seeks to arrest Baruch, this plot fails and Jeremiah dictates another scroll to Baruch.

The Babylonian siege was briefly lifted because of the nearby Egyptian army, Jeremiah is falsely imprisoned for allegedly fleeing then moved to Jerusalem, he continues to prophesize impending Babylonian conquest.

 The officials try to kill Jeremiah who encourages king Zedekiah to surrender to Babylonians , he is cast into cistern then moved to guardhouse  court.

 Jerusalem is seized and captured, Jeremiah is captured then given choice to stay or be exiled by captain of the bodyguard Nebuzaradan, under appointed Babylonian king Gedaliah.

  Jeremiah is freed by King Nebuchadnezzar and chooses to stay with the poor outcasts who remained in Jerusalem,  some are conspiring to kill King Gedaliah after he is appointed king of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar.  

 Appointed king Gedaliah and other dignitaries are assasinated by Ishmael and other conspirators in an attempted coup, until Ishmael's men turn to Johanan who battled back. 

Johanan then properly seeks prophesy from Jeremiah and is warned not to flee to Egypt but remain in Judah and to not fear and submit to Babylonian authority.

Johanan disobeys and flees to Egypt fearful of Babylon with Jeremiah captive, Jeremiah then assures brutal destruction of fleeing Jews and their Egyptian hosts by Babylon with hidden stone illustration.

 God speaks to Jeremiah and assures all who remain in Egypt including remnant will be utterly destroyed by famine and sword and Pharaoh will be given to his enemies.

Jeremiah sent a message to Baruch in the fourth year of King Jehoiakim assuring the uprooting of the whole land and for him to prepare for death and destruction.

The defeat of Pharaoh and his army by Nebuchadnezzer is foretold in a poem emphasizing the pending terror God's sovereign hand and future restoration of Jacob's seed.

Jeremiah foresees the destruction of the Philistines in Gaza by the hand of Pharaoh by the order of the Lord.

The destruction of Moab is prophesized by Jeremiah, she has defiled the Lord she will be defiled,  Look ! An eagle is swooping down, spreading its wings over Moab. 

  The destructions of Ammon, Edom, Damascus, and other surrounding nations of Judah are prophesized, they will be mocked with terror on every side and no way to escape God's judgment.

The fall of Babylon is prophesized,  all who pass Babylon will be appalled; they will scoff because of her wounds,  spare no arrows to shoot at her for she has sinned against the Lord.

The Lord will raise up another powerful nation to destroy Babylon because she caused calamity to God's beloved nation Israel,  Babylon’s thick wall will be leveled and her high gates set on fire.

The fall of Jerusalem is told under king Zedekiah, he did evil in the sight of the Lord this is Jeremiah's grandson.  Riblah from Babylon killed his sons in front of his eyes and took all the valuables from the temple to Babylon.  

  Isaiah wrote a message to the people of Israel and others regarding two kings of Israel who didn't trust God, to remind the people that God will ultimately deliver them through His warrior servant/king to come. 

  Jeremiah laments over the sins of Zion (Jerusalem) which has kindled the wrath of God as some of the horrors of the siege are described,  ultimately the prophet hopes in the refuge of God's mercy.
