Joshua - Conqueror - BIBLE SUMMARY

1 - Joshua

 Joshua becomes God's leader following the death of Moses, he prepares the people for the  crossing of the Jordan river in 3 days, the people promise to follow Joshua, dissidents shall be  put to death.

2 - Rahab

 Two spies encounter Rahab, a prostitute who fears God, she lies to her king to protect the spies and asks for mercy from the spies vowed by a  red rope to be hung from her window.

3 - Jordan

 Joshua commands people and priests to consecrate themselves for Jordan river crossing behind ark  of covenant and the waters part miraculously as they cross.

 Joshua directs 12 tribe stones from the Jordan river  to be stacked as a monument in Gilgal, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant were lifted as they crossed the river Jordan.

 The Lord tells Joshua to circumcise all men and then celebrate passover at Gilgal, Joshua encounters an armed commander of the Lord and worships appropriately.

 Small town Ai defeats Israelites because Achan stole unauthorized silver at Jericho, this angered God, Israel stones Achan in response.

 God commands Joshua to ambush, conquer and kill all in Ai, the city is burned then the people gather to read the Law  at an altar site on Mount Ebal.

 The Gibeonites masquerade as far traveled and make treaty with Joshua to preserve life, they understood the Law's deliverance of all within the land, they would serve Israel for deceiving them.

 Joshua's utter defeat of numerous cities in the land  are listed including a day the sun stood still in battle, the Lord fought for Israel and defeated all who breathed.

 The Lord delivered all the kings of the north into the hands of Joshua and they were utterly destroyed just as commanded to Moses and then there was rest.

 This chapter lists 31 kings by city that Joshua conquered  of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, including  geographic boundaries.

 The inherited territories of 9 1/2 of the tribes are west of the Jordan river, 2 1/2 tribes are east, Joshua gives Caleb Hebron as promised.

 Israel assembled at Shiloh, 3 men per tribe are commissioned to survey and divide the land, the territory of Benjamin is demarcated.

 48 cities of the Levites are designated in the midst of the possession and the pasture lands of the son's of Israel as told to Moses.

 An altar is built by the 2 1/2 tribes which almost sparks war because the rest of Israel sees it as rebellious to God (location of worship), it is clarified by Phinehas as an appropriate witness altar only.

 Joshua gives a farewell address and tells the people to follow Moses' law always, God has driven out the nations before them and not one word promised to Moses has failed.
