The sorrows of Zion (Jerusalem) are expressed, her adverseries have become her master,  the people are hungry and caught in the web of their own sin.

The anger of God has been poured out on his nation like a flaming fire, the prophet sees and  tearfully describes the destruction.

The prophet Jeremiah shares in his reflection to the afflictions of Israel and hopes for relief in God's mercy.

 The distress of the siege is described,  the daughters of Israel have become cruel like ostriches eating their own children left exposed drunk and naked to the nations

 A prayer for mercy from an exiled people who have been worn out and degraded, the women have been ravished, their dancing has become mourning.

 Jeremiah is a prophet sent by God with a message of judgment to Israel who would not respond to his word as they proceeded into exile in Babylon,  the remnant is promised the protection of God and future forgiveness of sins.  

  During  Babylonian exile the prophet Ezekiel gives hope for a return to the city of Jerusalem where the land will be restored.
